Rajan Govindan Appointed Managing Director of Samoset Capital Group and Chief Executive Officer of Samoset Institutional Advisors

DARIEN, CT – Samoset Capital Group LLC announced today that Rajan Govindan has joined the firm as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the firm’s subsidiary Samoset Institutional Advisors LLC. In his role, Rajan is responsible for providing strategic leadership and broad executive management for Samoset Institutional Advisors, and oversees all transitions and integration of people, operations, systems and technology in connection with the acquisitions made by Samoset.

Rajan has over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, and most recently was a Senior Managing Director and the Chief Operating Officer of Bear Stearns Asset Management, managing over $43 billion for institutions and HNW individuals, in an array of traditional equity and fixed income funds and alternatives including hedge funds and private equity. At Bear Stearns Asset Management, Rajan was responsible for the day-to-day operating infrastructure of the business, including operations, technology, compliance, operating risk, finance, human resources and marketing services. He developed the operations and technology infrastructure to accommodate growth and diversity of product offerings, balancing short-term profit requirements and long-term strategic investments. Prior to working at Bear Stearns Asset Management, Rajan was the Chief Administrative Officer and a member of the Management Committee of Lord, Abbett & Co., where he was responsible for strategic planning, operations and technology. He led the initiative to completely reorganize the company, and developed the company’s strategic business and infrastructure plans with senior partners and the board, enabling the company to meet aggressive growth goals within a short time frame. The restructured environment enabled the firm to grow from $18 billion to $48 billion in assets under management, and grow staff from 135 to over 500, while improving profitability. Rajan spent 17 years at Bankers Trust rising to Partner, Senior Managing Director and Deputy Chief Information Officer where he was responsible for the company’s $1.2 billion, 3,000 employee worldwide technology organization, leading the centralization of worldwide technology and operations groups, saving over $200 million annually.   Prior to that role, he was a Senior Managing Director and the Chief Operating Officer of Private Banking, Product Development & Marketing for Retirement Services, where he created the first-ever offering of life cycle funds for the 401(k) market place, and Group Head for the Defined Contribution Business, where he led the turnaround of anon-performing, 800-employee business unit, taking it from a $1 million net loss to a $32 million pre-tax profit, positioning the business as a top-three player in the market.

“Rajan’s extensive experience operating and integrating large asset management platforms, with a focus on technology, compliance, operating risk, finance, human resources and marketing, is a valued addition to the management team at Samoset in light of our plan to continue to acquire and grow similar businesses. Importantly, Rajan will also be leading our efforts in private-labeling our investment management capabilities to the institutional market, where he background and experience are sure to make that effort successful. We are delighted Rajan has joined us and are fortunate to have him as a part of our senior leadership team,” stated Peter E. Ruhlin., President and Chief Operating Officer of Samoset Capital Group.

Rajan currently serves on the Board of Directors Advisors of Beehive Ventures LLC, a technology venture capital firm, and is a Trustee of the Prashanti Trust, which provides free education and medical care in third world countries.

Rajan has a Masters of Science, Operations Research, from New York University and a Bachelors of Engineering in Structural Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology in India.
